23 February 2013 - Homemade Yummy Yam Paste (Own Experimental Recipe)

Yummy Yam Paste

Ingredients:

2 medium large Yam
Sugar (Adjust to your own taste of sweetness)
200ml Coconut Milk (Kara brand recommended)
Canola Oil (Healthier), around 1 Cup. Add more if you want to have a smoother texture.
Gingko Nuts (Canned, Halves to remove the "heart"/small seed in the middle of the Gingko Nut)
Water (Add till your desired paste consistency)

Equipment:

Spoons
Sharp Knife For Chopping
Masher (If you don't own a Masher, use a normal fork and balloon whisk to mash)
Large Bowls
Steamer/Add water into a larger cooking wok with a steamer rack in the wok.
Kitchen Timer
Measuring Cup
Frying Wok (Best if it is non-stick coating)
Frying Scallion / Heat-proof Frying Spatula

Method:

1. Chop off the top part of the Yam (softest part) and using a knife to remove the skins of the Yam. If you feel itchiness when chopping Yam, PLEASE WEAR KITCHEN GLOVES.

2. Chop the Yam into pieces not in orderly manner and place them in the large bowl.

3. Add enough water for the steamer/wok with steamer rack stand to prevent drying out during steaming. Place the bowl of Yam in the steamer and steam for 30 minutes or until the Yams are completely soft. Use a toothpick or fork to check the if the Yam were soft and cooked. While waiting for the Yams to be cooked, cut the Gingko Nuts into halves to remove the small seed and rinse. Please dispose the water from the Canned Gingko Nuts.

4. Mash the Yam until it completely no cubes of Yams left.

5. Prepare the Frying Non-Stick Wok, turn on the heat to the smallest possible. Add 2 tablespoons of the Canola oil first. By using your palm to feel if the heat are not too hot. Add the mashed Yam into the wok to stir occasionally. Add sugar gradually to avoid overly-sweet taste of the paste. Stir till the sugar dissolved.

6. Add the Coconut Milk/Cream and continue to stir until fragrant.

7. Taste a bit of the paste if the sweetness suits your taste. If not, continue to add until your desired sweetness. As well as the amount of oil for smoother paste. Continue to add water possible for much much smoother paste.

8. When everything is done, place them in containers and decorate them with Gingko nuts for presentable look. Enjoy!

15 December 2012 - De Classic Golden Spoon

Hi again, this is my third post of the day! Hahas, managed to do all today. Hope you guys could enjoy the reviews and photos of the food reviews and what's new I had. I'm gonna post about this restaurant that was famous for their Crab Bee Hoon (Rice Vermicelli). So my brother recommended this place for mom's advance birthday dinner there. Enjoy the Pictorial Review!

15 December 2012 - De Classic Golden Spoon

Menu
Condiments (Hot Chili Sauce, Chopped Chilies, Braised Peanuts)
Fish Maw Soup with Crab Meat
Generous Piece Of Crab Meat in Soup
Sri Lanka Crab Bee Hoon (Rice Vermicelli)

Big Piece of Crab Tongs
Fried Beancurd with Cereals and Pumpkin Sauce

Fried Broccoli with Fresh Scallops
Steamed Garoupa Fish
Bill

Fish Maw Soup with Crab Meat: The soup were thickened and the taste are not very salty or bland, I had this soup with crab meat in it and the meat was generous though. Mostly crab meats in soups are very little bite size pieces. It was good with provided black vinegar and pepper to go along to enhance the taste of the soup. Rating: 4.9/5 Stars, Price: $20.00

Sri Lanka Crab Bee Hoon: Alright, this was the main star of the start. Really impressed with the portion and and taste of this dish. The bee hoon were not hard and it's cooked to perfection. The crab was like, a wow to me. Maybe because its Sri Lanka Crab that were big? Haha, the meat of the crab were not tough and it is very very firm. Provided they have a cracker and a hand wash for their customers to clean their hands and easily cracking up the hard shells of the crabs. Not too salty, and it is very filling because of the portion of the bee hoon itself. Rating: indescribable/5 Stars, Price: (approx. $6 per 100g)

Fried Broccoli with Fresh Scallops: Freshly cooked broccoli, not to hard. Just the way the floral vegetables should cooked. Fresh scallops are not shrink till smaller than a normal size. Very nicely cooked, quick stir-fry and not salty at all as compared to those I had in Tze Char stalls. Rating: 4.5/5 Stars (More scallops please?), Price: $20.00

Fried Beancurd with Cereals and Pumpkin Sauce: The taste were similar to Cereal Prawns, but cooked it in a different way. Savory Pumpkin Sauce, cereals are fried just nice and not overly. There's a taste of curry leaves during the frying of the cereals. More tasty and enhance the bland fried beancurd (tofu) flavor to it. Rating: 4.5/5 Stars, Price: $12.00 (Small)

Steamed Garoupa Fish: The fish were fresh, the sauce were somehow salty maybe it is the sauce they mixed? The meat were firm, not tough. Steamed to a perfection and not overly cooked and done. Nothing much to say about the fish though. Rating: 4/5 Stars, Price: Seasonal (A bit kinda cheated by them by the type of fish.)

Overall:

Service: 4.3/5 Stars (One of the staff shouldn't have said it takes time to make a dessert, we have time to wait. Kinda under trained staff? The dishes were out and never really state the name of it, kinda disappointed though.  More smaller seats if provided only 4 - 6 pax for groups like this.)

Food: 4.5/5 Stars (Still able to accept it. But, it still good :) )

Price: 3.5/5 Stars (Expensive! Can be visited once a year for me)

17 December 2012 - FullHouse Lifestyle Store & Cafe/Bar

Hello once again!! I'm gonna post about this very unique cafe at Rendezvous Hotel it's called FullHouse Lifestyle Store & Cafe. It is like a small store in the cafe and you can actually shop there, mostly ladies fashion. Got this place recommended by a friend of mine to celebrate our friend's birthday. Been passed by this place quite a while since the day they are open. Let's take a Pictorial Review for this Cafe.

Mini Store

The place are great for groups, special occasions and romantic dinners. Their food are great, something special for me as I went there for the first time. Tried my friend's pasta and chicken, they are actually good. Cooked just the way it is, not too tough for the chicken. The pasta were well done, if you like spicy there are chili padi (small hot chili) and black pepper. It had a kick on the spiciness of the pasta.

The Smoothies-Fruities Fish were really good. The fish were pan-fried to a well done, although it's a bit tough to cut through. But the fish were fresh, accompanied with mash potatoes on the bottom of the fish and the passion berries sauce. I think there is blueberry/blackberry sauce too. It's not deadly sweet, the dried tomatoes are really savory and tasty.

Overall:

Service: 4.9/5 Stars (The staffs there are friendly, and told us if there's any dishes that are not suitable for weak stomach or the dishes are not available. Thoughtful)

Food: 4.5/5 Stars

Price: Smoothies Fruities Fish ($22.90)

7 December 2012 - Sugar Granny Cafe

Hello everyone!! FINALLY, I'm free to post something here. So, I went with my boyfriend to this vintage interior cafe which was around Chinatown area. He recommended some good food and here's the Pictorial Review of this Cafe.

7 December 2012 - Sugar Granny Cafe

Menu
Interior

 Nasi Lemak

Boneless Fried Chicken Wings (2 Pieces)

Lychee Icy Swirl (Large)

Durian Sago (Large)

Milky Buns (5 Pieces)

Black Glutinous Paste with Vanilla Ice Cream

Bill

The food were not bad, their desserts are delicious as it is not too sweet.
The Lychee Icy Swirl were slightly too sweet for me as it might be the lychee syrup that made the swirl slightly sweeter.

Their Boneless Chicken Wings are absolute delicious, crispy, meat are tender and juicy not overly done. It is fried to perfection. If you love fried chicken, you would love this dish.

The Milky Buns are actually fried mantous (Fried Pillow Buns) with "Milkmaid". So, you would just dip the buns in the sweetened condensed milk and eat or eat it as its own. The buns are crispy fried too, not too oily.

Others like Nasi Lemak (Rice cooked with pandan leaves and coconut milk with main sides: chicken wings, eggs, fish and chili) and Black Glutinous Paste with Vanilla Ice Cream are not bad commented by my boyfriend. I just had those mentioned above.

So, if you foodies out there if you would like to try this cafe it is recommended and there's other more dishes and desserts in the cafe.

Overall:

Service: 4.5/5 stars (the auntie did not smile, but her service were really impressed for me, waited less than 10 minutes for food and desserts)

30 June 2012 - Sushi Tei @ Vivo City Outlet

Hi Food Lovers' Fans!! It's been a SUPER DUPER LOOOOONG time that I posted in this blog, SORRY FOR WAITING!! And thank you for your patience for a long awaiting post I'm gonna post today. Last weekend my family and I visited this awesome Japanese restaurant in Vivo City. It's called Sushi Tei. The place is very packed on a weekend itself, but the ambience are really comfy and relaxing. Here's a Pictorial of what we had in this restaurant! Enjoy!!

30 June 2012 - Sushi Tei @ Vivo City Outlet

A Pictorial

We spent $150 (rounded price) on all these courses. It's worth the price though it's expensive to some. We had 5 people and we shared all the courses. The Green Tea is Complimentary Free Flow I think is only for Hot Green Tea.

The food are really fresh, their desserts are very nice, not overly sweet. I like their Fruity Ice Balls, brings up memories. Hehe. The Fish Red Bean With Vanilla Ice Cream & Chocolate Wafers Ice Cream are really nice. But, it depends on each taste.

I love their Sashimi which costs $30 for a Large one. Really fresh with wasabi soya sauce. Their Fried Oysters are crispy, juicy fat oysters and obviously fresh! Tastes like the sea. I've tried their Udon Prawn and Onions Fried Tempura, not bad. I like the crispiness of the Tempura, the prawns are fresh, crunchy too.

Others worth the try of The Seafood Paper Japanese Hotpot, Fried Soba (another choice will be Udon), Salmon Soba, Grilled Squid, Agedashi Fried Tofu, Black Roe Sushi. They had Rotating Sushi Available, their prices are all stated in the Menu. Not commonly like Sakae Sushi or other sushi restaurants that counts the plates of sushi eaten.

Overall:
Ambience: 9/10
Service: 8/10 (Quite Fast On Serving Food and Friendly Staffs)
Food: 8/10
Price: 6/10 (Might be too expensive if dining for 2 persons)
